Application & Enrollment Process

What happens after I submit an Expression of Interest?

Families on the waitlist are contacted by late February or early March to confirm interest in September enrollment. Teachers contact new parents in late August to schedule pre-school meetings.

Can I tour the school before applying?

Yes. New families are encouraged to book a tour of the facility on the Selkirk Waterfront. Contact the receptionist to arrange an appointment where you can meet with the Head of School or Vice-Principal to review the Family Handbook.

When is the best time to apply?

In January, current families indicate their return status and can register younger siblings. By late February or early March, administration contacts families on the waitlist to confirm interest in September enrollment.

How do I apply to Selkirk Montessori?

Complete an "Expression of Interest" form and submit it to reception@selkirkmontessori.ca. Applications are accepted year-round.

Programs & Montessori Approach

Does Selkirk follow the BC curriculum?

Yes. The school offers the full BC curriculum to Grade 8, taught by Montessori-trained educators.

What is Contemporary Montessori?

Selkirk Montessori identifies as Contemporary Montessori, balancing Maria Montessori's principles with current educational research and best practices. The guiding principle is "Follow the Child," where students learn at their own pace through guided exploration while developing independence, confidence, and self-discipline.

What programs are offered?

Montessori Kindergarten/Preschool (ages 3-6), Montessori Elementary and Middle Years (ages 6-14), and Before and After School Care.

Fees & Commitments

What commitments are required from families?

All families must complete a Family Statement of Commitment (emphasizing that partners in Montessori Education—home, school, and child—must work together) and a SOGI Statement of Commitment (confirming the school's commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all members).

Is financial assistance available?

Yes. The school offers financial assistance options including community bursary, temporary relief, and sibling discounts. Details are available in the school's policies.
